Release of Larry Hoover/David Barksdale Docu Film Delayed After Murder

Killing of Movie Subject's Nephew Causes Cancellation of Yet Another Willie Earl Scott Film

Five years after the Southside Chicago murders of Jawon Carter and Lavelle Cox, the film LARRY & DAVID: This Side of the Mississippi has been cancelled for release indefinitely after it was revealed that both Carter, a grand nephew of long incarcerated GD leader Larry Hoover, and his suspected killer appeared in the anticipated GlobalStorm film.

Carter, 24, whose gang-style murder at a Southside Chicago's GoLo Gas Station was captured on surveillance camera, appeared in the filming for the Folks-based documentary during its 2017-2018 making after its creator Willie Earl Scott sought several relatives of the deceased and incarcerated Chicago ganglords Barksdale and Hoover for cameos, paying them each $500 apiece for sit-down interviews and old family photos.

After it had learned that Carter had been killed during the making of the documentary, GlobalStorm pushed back the release out of respect for the family and to give the authorities space to investigate. Now, with a suspect who may have also appeared in the project, the film's release has been cancelled altogether.
